President of the United States twice in his life. He met with a lot of trouble when he tried to continue to be President for the second time because the war was not going well for the north, and Lincoln almost lost the support of most Americans, for the war had lasted for nearly four years. One night in August, he wrote in his diary: “It seems very probable that my government will lose this election.” But he had forgot his friendship with Thomas Nast, who had always been his firm supporter and who was very good at drawing cartoons. Just as Meclellane was getting more and more support from the people, Nast drew many wonderful cartoons that were published in newspapers. The cartoons showed the Americans that Meclellane was a man who would give in to the south, and he would serve the southern slave owners like their running dog. It was not long before the Americans realized that only Abraham Lincoln was able to lead them to Victory and build a better America.
